Lichen

Our plants

Lichens: elegance born of resilience.

An origin as ancient as it is fascinating

The term ‘lichen’ derives from the Greek λειχὴν (leikhḗn), meaning ‘parasitic plant.’ Today, more than 20,000 species are recorded across the globe: from rocks battered by sea spray to boreal forests, the Arctic tundra, and the dense jungles of the Amazon. They are capable of surviving the most extreme conditions, including cold, prolonged drought, and intense sunlight.

Beauty born from symbiosis

Formed by a subtle symbiosis of fungi and algae, lichens appear in a rich array of shapes and tones, casting mineral hues across stone and bark.
Their thalli form true micro-landscapes, evoking miniature baobab forests, trumpet-shaped podetia, and shrubs adorned with delicate spheres.

The ultimate symbol of resilience

It is undoubtedly their resilience that commands the greatest admiration. When deprived of water, light, or substrate, they enter a state of dormancy, suspending all vital activity until favourable conditions return. In this, they embody the endurance and profound ingenuity of nature.

A rare and respectful harvest

Harvested with the greatest care throughout Europe by the brand’s founder in close partnership with the renowned lichenologist Dr Mathias Vust, our lichens combine extraordinary resilience with extremely slow growth. Requiring no in-vitro cultivation, they allow you to wear a variety as close as possible to its natural habitat.

Origin

Our lichens come from the Swiss Alps, Northern Europe, Scandinavia, and Iceland. They have been carefully harvested and prepared by our specialist, Dr Mathias Vust, a renowned lichenologist.

We are delighted to present you the Cladonia Borealis variety.

These lichens are distinguished by their elegant, slender cup-shaped structures, topped with bright red spherical tips, resembling tiny fruits perched on grey stems.

Our lichens are highly resilient plants. They can be easily worn on the wrist and require very little care.

They enjoy light and sunlight in moderation, but also require shade.

The lifespan of our lichens ranges from 1 to 5 years, but they can last significantly longer depending on their environment.

Should you ever require a replacement, we will be pleased to assist you. Simply return your globe in the original gyroscopic container provided with your purchase.

Our recommendations :

  1. We recommend not wearing your lichen overnight to allow it a period of rest.
  2. When not worn on your wrist, we recommend positioning it horizontally.
  3. Do not leave your lichen in direct sunlight for more than 3 hours.
  4. It can withstand temperatures as low as -5°C. When worn on your wrist, it will be protected by your body heat and shielded by your jacket.
  5. Please avoid strong impacts, which may dislodge the plant from its base.
  6. Avoid leaving it in a closed drawer, since a plant requires light to thrive.
